Mathias Amunde, a 29 years old man man, was tracked by police to a shrine where he had gone for a money ritual using his mother, Mrs. Amunde's hair, and subsequently got arrested.

The victim's body was reportedly recovered from a deep dry well on December 28, 2024.

It was gathered that a combined team, including the Investigating Police Officer (IPO), the Special Adviser on Security to the Obudu Local Government Chairman, the Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Obudu Chapter, and men of the Nigerian Police Force in Batriko, Eastern Boki Local Government Area, apprehended the suspect.

A publisher, Elijah Ugani, confirmed the arrest in a Facebook post on Friday, January 10, 2025. He stated that an anonymous source revealed the victim was murdered, and her hair was shaved for rituals.

The security operatives also arrested the ritualist who instructed the suspect to shave his mother's hair and bring it to him. Currently, both the suspect and the native doctor are being held at the Obudu Divisional Police Headquarters in Cross River State.
