Genoveva Umeh, also known as Genoveva Kenechukwu Umeh, is a British-Nigerian actress and lawyer. She was born on May 8, 1995, in Enugu State, Nigeria. In 2022, she was nominated for the Best Actress in a Drama category at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards for her performance in the movie 'A Tune Away'. She gained recognition for her roles in the Nigerian crime thriller series 'Blood Sisters', which was the first Netflix original series from Nigeria, and the young adult series 'Far From Home'.

Early Life And Education 

Genoveva Umeh was born on May 8, 1995, in Enugu, Nigeria, to parents Gaius Umeh, a computer engineer, and Ifeoma Umeh, a nurse. She spent her early years in Nigeria, attending primary school at Command Children's School, Enugu, and started her secondary school at Command Day Secondary School, Enugu. 

When she was 12, Genoveva moved with her family to the United Kingdom in 2006. She continued and completed her secondary school and A-levels at St Marys C of E High School in London.

While in high school, Genoveva discovered her passion for acting. She pursued this interest by spending a term at the part-time drama school, Identity School of Acting, in the UK in 2012. During her summer breaks, she participated in several plays at the Hammersmith theatre in London.

After high school, Genoveva went on to study law at the University of Surrey, England. She graduated with honors, earning a LLB Law degree.

Career 

In 2018, Genoveva moved to Lagos, Nigeria to follow her acting dreams. She wrote and performed in a one-woman stage play called "HOME" at the Lagos Fringe Festival in Nigeria, and later, in Bloemfontein, South Africa. She also acted in the Rue14 studios stage Play, ‘High,’ playing the character Lami in 2018 and 2019, which aimed to highlight the issue of substance abuse among teenagers.

In 2020, Genoveva Umeh achieved a significant milestone in her acting career by securing her first major role in the film "A Tune Away." Her outstanding performance in the movie earned her a nomination for the Best Actress category at the prestigious 2022 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards. She started her on-screen acting career in 2019 with a minor role in ‘Love is War,’ a film that later became available on Netflix. In 2021, she portrayed a character named Anita, a secretive young Londoner, in "One Lagos Night," another film that also ended up on Netflix two years after its production. She acted as Khafilat in the BAFTA-nominated short film "Lizard" in 2020.

Genoveva was among the first group of students accepted into the Ebonylife Creative Academy. She gained recognition for her performances in short films like "Monitoring Spirits," where she won the best supporting actress award for her role as "Sara". She also acted in other short films like "Reflections," "Focus," and "IJO". Her talent caught the attention of Director Kenneth Gyang, who recommended her to Mo Abudu, the academy owner, to audition for the role of ‘Timeyin Ademola" in the Netflix original and Nigeria's first crime thriller series, "Blood Sisters".

After finishing "Blood Sisters", she was chosen to play the character Zina in "Far From Home".
