Jackie Appiah Biography

Jackie Appiah, born on December 5, 1983, in Toronto, Canada, is a famous Ghanaian actress who has greatly influenced the African film industry. She has won many awards for her excellent acting, including Best Actress in a Leading Role at the 2010 Africa Movie Academy Awards and Best Actress in a Supporting Role at the same awards in 2007. In 2023, she received the Excellence in Creative Art Award at the Ghana Women of the Year Honors. Besides acting, Jackie is also a movie producer, fashion model, and committed humanitarian.

Jackie Appiah was born in Toronto, Canada, as the youngest of five children. She spent her early childhood in Canada and moved to Ghana with her mother when she was 10 years old. Her father, Kwabena Appiah, still lives in Toronto. Jackie adjusted quickly to life in Ghana, continued her education, and developed her passion for acting.

 

 

 

 

Career

 

 

 

 

Jackie Appiah started her acting career with the role of Enyonam Blagogee in the TV series "Things We Do For Love," written by Edward Seddoh Junior. She then appeared in other TV series such as "Tentacles," "Games People Play," and "Sun-city." Although she felt shy and nervous during her first film, "Divine Love," she impressed everyone with her performance as the main character, Kate.

 

Her big break came with the film "Mummy’s Daughter" by Venus Films, where she played Princess, a role she particularly enjoyed. This role established her in the Ghanaian film industry and opened up more opportunities.

 

 She gained significant recognition in Nollywood with notable films like "Black Soul" and "Bitter Blessing" alongside Ramsey Nouah, and "My Last Wedding" with Emeka Ike.

 

In 2013, Jackie won the Best International Actress award at the Papyrus Magazine Screen Actors Awards (PAMSAA) in Abuja, Nigeria. 

 

Jackie Appiah’s face is well-known on billboards and TV commercials in Ghana. She has appeared in a GSMF advert promoting protection against HIV/AIDS, became the face of U.B., and is currently associated with IPMC for commercials and billboards. Her first TV commercial was for GSMF.

Jackie married Peter Agyemang in 2005, and they have a son named Damien Agyemang. They divorced after three years. In 2020, there were rumors that Jackie was expecting a child with Liberian President George Weah, but she denied these claims on Instagram.
