Juma Mussa Mkambala (born September 1, 1989), professionally known as Juma Jux or simply Jux, is a Tanzanian singer and songwriter. His music blends R&B, Bongo Flava, and Afrobeats. As of 2024, Jux is 38 years old. He is the founder of African Boy Brand.

Early Life And Background 

 

 

 

Born in Dar es Salaam, Jux's passion for music began at 16 when he started rapping for his friends and colleagues. In 2008, after signing with Tanzanian record label A.M Records, Jux shifted his focus to R&B, marking the beginning of his career in the genre. He has since released several hit songs, including "Sugua" featuring Diamond Platnumz, "Juu" featuring Vanessa Mdee, and "Regina" featuring Otile Brown.

 

In 2015, Jux won the 'Best R&B Song' award at the Kili Music Awards, also known as the National Tanzania Music Awards. Two years later, he received an award for Best East African Music Video at the Zanzibar International Film Festival.

Jux was nominated for 'Best Male East Africa' at the AFRIMMA awards in 2018 and 2019. He also performed on Coke Studio Africa in 2019. That same year, he won the Mwafaka Award for Best Music Video for his single "Sina Makosa."

Jux began making music in 2010 and released his first single, "Kwetu," in 2011. Over the years, he released multiple albums and singles, collaborating with artists like Nandy, Rayvanny, and Otile Brown. His music has brought him fame in Tanzania and earned him various accolades.

 

In 2019, Jux released his first album, The Love Album, featuring collaborations with Singah, Diamond Platnumz, Nyashinski, Vanessa Mdee, G Nako, and Joh Makini. His second album, King Of Hearts, was released in November 2022, featuring artists like Zuchu, Marioo, Mbosso, Terri, and Bien.

 

In 2023, Jux made headlines with his second collaboration with Diamond Platnumz, "Enjoy." The song, blending Bongo Flava and Amapiano, faced criticism for its resemblance to Nigerian singer Spyro's "Who Is Your Guy" and was later taken down from YouTube due to a copyright claim by Congolese singer Sapologuano Odenumz.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Personal Life

 

 

 

 

Jux's personal life has often been in the spotlight. His six-year relationship with fellow Tanzanian artist Vanessa Mdee was highly publicized. They toured together and released several singles before their relationship ended in 2019 amid rumors of infidelity involving Vanessa Mdee and American R&B artist Trey Songz.

 

In 2023, Jux confirmed he was dating socialite Karen Bujulu. In August 2024, he became engaged to Nigerian celebrity Priscilla Ojo.
